Profile

The 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia (UUD 1945) mandated that its lands, waters and natural resources shall be under the power of the State, and shall be used for the greatest benefit of the people. However, natural resources intended for public welfare tend to be exploited without considering sustainability, which leads to their depletion and degradation.

IPB University recognizes the importance and the strategic role of Natural Resource and environmental Economics in solving the paradox of economic growth, poverty, natural resource depletion, and environmental degradation. We need economists and policymakers whose expertise in managing and utilizing natural resources in a sustainable way achieves public welfare in the long term. Thus, the importance of establishing the Master’s Program of Resource and Environmental Economics (MREE), offered by the Department of Resource and Environmental Economics (Dept. of ESL), Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) at IPB University is clear.
